When you are married, things tend to fall into a rut, especially if you have children. Get up, prepare the children, go to work, come home, prepare dinner, prepare the children for the bed, go to bed. Then get up and start all over again. Sure, you’re doing different things, but a lot of the basics tend to stay the same. Fortunately, however, a simple nighttime date can get you out of the monotony. It’s funny how having someone in a trouser and shirt uniform to serve dinner instead of doing it yourself can make a difference. Or maybe your appointment involves going to the local coffee shop and talking about what you want while having a coffee with milk and eating homemade scones. The most important thing about the nightly date is not even what you do: it is with whom you do it.

The first time you start a romantic relationship with someone, it is usually new and exciting for a certain period of time. The things you do together are all first fruits: the first kiss, the first dinner and a movie, the first time you meet your parents. But after a while all those first ones become old hats, things that you do almost every day and that start to become mundane. Establishing an appointment night or a specific night each month can help you reconnect with your loved one. For once, all you have to talk about is what is happening in the lives of others or what interests you at that time. And although time can fly the night of the day, it is important to get the value of your money. Maybe you ask the man in the restaurant uniform to suspend the check because you’re having a dessert. Why not? It’s the date night!

Say you already work in a restaurant and the last thing you want to do in your date is to hang out with more people in uniform jackets. That’s understandable, so have your appointment somewhere else. Bring a picnic lunch to the park or by the lake. Share a conversation on a long walk through the woods. Find a bank and a good view of the sunset. Simply spending time together is what makes the difference and what will keep your relationship fresh and strong!
